Current Newsletter/Mitteilungsblat/Bulletin July 2007 Dear ISO Member As a test, this Newsletter is given in English with a link to an Internet translator. Translations take time and are costly, and ISO needs all the time to cut expenses to keep a good economic balance. If you have problems to understand the Newsletter text or using the Internet translator, please get in touch with the Secretary. Internet translator/Internet Übersetzer/traduction Internet: http://babelfish.altavista.com News from the Board Meeting The Board Meeting took place in Bordeaux 10th of February. Since Guido Schumacher was elected Treasurer, it has been decided to concentrate all of the ISO economy to Belgium, where our Society also is registered. Therefore will also the invoicing of the membership fees as well as the membership register be transferred to Guido Schumacher. From 2007 all questions about payments and invoices should be directed to Guido Schumacher Heggen 51 A, BE-4837 Baelen, Belgium, Tel: +32 87883030, Fax: +32 87882935, e-mail: Treasurer. Changes of address should be directed both to Guido Schumacher and with copy to the Secretary who will still be responsible for sending out information via e-mail. Please do not forget to notify ISO when you have changed address, telephone, e-mail address or if you have a new web site. If we do not get this information, there is a risk that you might miss information about coming events of ISO, as well as your correct address in the new web site. At the Board meeting, the job description for the Secretary was discussed, and the Board decided to update it since the Secretary will no longer handle the invoicing. The Secretary will be more active in recruiting new members for ISO and also to a greater extent assist the Editor with the ISO Journal. The 50th anniversary of ISO will be celebrated in Amsterdam September 7th to 9th this year. Gerard Pels is the organizer, assisted by some colleagues from The Netherlands and the Netherlands' Society of Organbuilders. More information has been given separately and is also available on the web site: , we hope to see many of you there, so don't forget to put these dates down in your calendar. The invitation (see below) and registration form is attached to this Newsletter. Please observe that there will be a symposium with relevant speakers and concert organists at the new "Orgel Park" on 8th September, which will be open to everybody (no need to be ISO member), as well as the concerts and visits of the churches on the 9th. The Editor François Uys reported about the work with the coming issues of the ISO Journal. He is dependent on contributions and feedback from ISO members, if you have anything in organbuilding you would like to share with your fellow ISO members, please don't hesitate to write an article for the ISO Journal. You are most welcome to contact François for further discussions. To be able to maintain such an attractive journal it is important to increase the number of subscribers. All ISO members are therefore encouraged to spread the Journal to organ friends around you. If you need further information or you would like to purchase further copies of the Journal, please get in touch with the Publisher Guido Schumacher. The Board decided to initiate an update and change of the ISO web site, which has become a bit outdated. A new web master has been appointed, who will present a draft in due course. There has also been discussions about a possible chat forum for ISO members on the web site, where it will be possible to exchange ideas and thoughts. There will also be a page for the interchange of young organbuilders and journeymen/women. The first page of the web site is thought to be an exposition of organs built by all of us. A random computer software will show the different organs on the web site. Please send digital photos in jpg-format in good resolution of two of your most relevant instruments (restored or new) before July 15th to the new web master Rachel Mawhood: rachel@longitude0.co.uk Many thanks for your collaboration. The ISO Congress 2008 will take place in Gdansk (Danzig), Poland and Stralsund, Germany September 21st until September 26th, 2008. There will be a pre and post Congress program of one day in each end of the Congress. The program is planned by Kristian Wegscheider together with colleagues in Poland and Germany and will include many interesting organs like Marienkirche Gdansk, Oliva, new restored organs in and around Stralsund, as well as interesting means of travel like boat and steam train. The Congress will be called "Pomerania 2008". You can follow the development of the Congress on its own web site: www.pomerania2008.com The Workshop on voicing of English Orchestral Reeds at the Harrison & Harrison workshop in Durham, England in September and October has already been fully booked. If you have any idea of an aspect of organbuilding that you think would be interesting to share with the ISO members, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Secretary to develop you ideas further.
