The Organ Scene in Pomerania: Historical Overview
Pomerania is divided in two by the Oder: a larger part, eastern Pomerania (now Poland) and a smaller part, western Pomerania. The river Recknitz forms the western border between West Pomerania and Mecklenburg; while the historical border of East Pomerania runs east of the cities of Lebork, Bytow, Czluchow and Pila, and in the south along the Netze. There is a coast stretching 519 kilometres from the Darß peninsula in the west to Piasnitz in the east. This faces the islands of Rügen, Usedom and Wollin.
In this article, illustrated by numerous pictures and specifications of various instruments, the organist Martin Rost gives an overview of Pomeranian organbuilding history.
